1998 Ford Explorer
Check engine light has been on for about a week.
Today, the Ford dealer here in NJ told me I need a new catalytic converter, eco sensor and monitor. Total cost $ 1500.00 This quote is for an after-market catalytic converter $ 765.00 (the ford catalytic converter was $1251), oxygen sensor $98.00 and monitor $ 95.00, plus labor and tax. (he took $50.00 off the price), but really, this quote seems exceptionally high.
He said the catalytic converter was clogged (carb buildup) and would ultimately destroy the engine if it was not replaced.
Any suggestions on how to cut the cost?
Thank you.

the cheapest way would be to buy a 100 dollar convertor from jc whitney a universal fit and ahve that put on.
