1995 ford explorer speedometer not hooked up can this cause transmission to not shift right in first gear?
The mechanic who put our transmission in forgot to hook up the speedometer cable back on transmission. First gear has hard time shifting when it suppose to.

The speedometer cable should have no effect on shifting. This sounds more like a problem with the vacuum modulator or valve body. Also, check adjustment of the intermediate band. This can also cause a late shift from 1st to 2nd.
