Engine Performance problem
1994 Ford Explorer 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

This truck is not running smooth. It will idle ok but you go to drive it and it runs rough. It also uses alot of gas and makes black spots from the exhaust on the ground. Help. The engine was just put in and it wont make it back to the shop.

Was it a exact replacement engine? It ran good from shop to home? Need some more information on it before I can help you further. But I can however define the codes for you in the meantime.

P0122 is throttle positino sensor low input. This means the vehicle is not reading a high enough reading from sensor. Maybe due to a bad refrence wire or a misadjusted sensor.

Po327 means bank one knock sensor or if you only have one. That it has a low circuit input.

Would suspect a bad knock sensor or a short in the circuit.

Lastly they both lead towards bad pcm. That may be causing the issue but check the others first. And get back the information I have requested

The truck ran like this when I pick it up. The other day I hook two hoses to the egr valve pressure sensor. The truck almost ran right for 15 minutes then it stated running rough again. I hate r/r parts but the code reader is telling me to r/r the TPS, EGR vacuum solinoid and the EGR presure sensor.
Please let me know what you think.
Thank you in advance

Disconnect the egr and plug up the ports. And remove vaccum and electrical connector from egr. Plug the vaccum or keep it on the EGR

its the same exact engine?

Yes that too. Disc all that deal with the connect and plug eveything that has to deal with the egr valve and its components. And then disconnect the electrical connectors and run it and see how it goes.

I disconnected the vacuum hose at the manifold. The one that goes to the solenoid then to EGR valve.I left the electical alone. Once I got the truck started and smoothed out I took it for a drive. It ran fine for about 5 miles then started with the missing on the acceleration. Like the timming is off.

Ok. Maybe time check out the spark plugs. Are they showing signs of running rich? They will be white on the porcelain due to the gas cleaning them off. And no combustion.

You may or may not have answered. But I havnt seen if you answered yet. Is that the exact replacement engine or what mods went into it.

Have you checked fuel pressure?

Why did old engine go out

The motor is the same no mods, the old motor ran fine until the radiator blew and overheated the motor. The truck is running rich when missing plus using lots of gas.

EGR is disconnected, when the truck warms up it runs rich or as if the timming is off because it sputters when you give it too much pedal.

Have you checked the timing. When it warms up check it see if its spot on.

Disconnect the 02 sensors so it stays in close loop mode to see if its a sensor or what.

How it run with 02 offline?
