Vehicle: 1993 Ford Explorer XLT, 4 door, 2 wheel drive, auto transmission, appx. 140,000 miles, 4.0L V6;

The transmisson sticks in 1st and will not shift to 2nd unless you release the gas pedal and then it shifts out fine. No problem with any other gears, just going from 1st to 2nd. I want to sell this truck but I don't want to spend a lot of $$$ at a transmission shop solving the transmission issue. My question is what does this problem sound like it could be and how much money would be involved?

thanks.

Not a certified mechanic, but.
Shifting problems are classic signs of xmission failure. Check for burnt xmission fluid-black ans smells. If fluid is not burnt, you may be in luck and could be a vacuum leak. Once the fluid is burned, nothing to do but rebuild the tranny.
Hope this helps.
