Air Conditioner Clutch
97 Ford Expedition 5.4 Liter 93000 miles
air conditioner clutch will not engage, connected 12v directly to the connector on the clutch and it did not engage. The repair person I use says the risk is high that the clutch failing contaminated the rest of the system and the compressor will lock or receiver/dryer will clog if they aren't replaced. I thought the clutch was isolated from the freon. Would you replace just a clutch? When the failure occurred the clutch would click on and off particularly at idle (cooled when it was on) and at that time I checked the pressure. The freon was full so I think it is still full with no leaks.
