Heater core

Heater problem
2000 Ford Expedition V8 Automatic 98,000 miles

I have taken my car to the shop to get fixed and they said I need to replace the heater core. It is leaking and the cost is going to run about $850.00 to get it repaired. I am not able to pay that amount at the current time. Does that sound about right? How much does the part itself run?

It does sound right! The part is cheap under 100.00, but the labor involved is heavy, the dash needs to be removed, the heater plenum(box) A/C discharged and the case is taken out opened up, the new core put in, reassembled... Not for the faint hearted! You could but a tube and put the two heater hoses together, this would temporarily solve your problem. You wont have heat until the actual repair is done.
