Park break

I just bought a 97 ford escort with 245,000. Manual tranny. The park break doens't work. When I pull up on it I can pull it up with 1 finger, no resistance.

Obviously, something is either unhooked or broken. A loy of times the cables will start to corrode, what happens is the parking brake will not fully release so people either unhook them or fix it. With a manual trans you really should have an operable brake. You know so the day you leave iit in a forward gear facing down the hill, it won't end up in someone's house.
