I was hoping somebody could give me some advise on a problem i'm having with my 96 Ford Escort 1.8. Milage is around 100,000.

I've had it for around 4 years with no major problems apart from a new water pump and general wear and tear. However when I started it up this morning, nothing happened. I checked the cam belt and it would turn one tooth and then stop. As if it was jammed.

I left it for an hour or so and tried again. It started up no problem but was juddering and not idling smothly at all. I gave it some revs and was annoyed to see clouds of white/greyish smoke coming out of the exhaust. I turned the engine off, started it up again and there is a constant stream of smoke even when it's idling.

Any ideas as to what the problem could be please?

I have a 1995 Ford Escort LX with 114,000 miles. Upon attempting to start it I heard a loud clicking sound like something against the fan blade. I found nothing in contact with the fan blade. I tried to restart and the same sound appeared, after several attempt the car started and the sound diminished, but the power of the engine was not normal. The next day it started, but the noise was somewhat muffled, the power seemed improved but the engine seemed to be missing? I would appreciate your kind help.

Thank you for your time and consideration,
