Well sorry it took so long to respond back but I was waiting until the weather breaks and its gonna be 80 degrees tomorrow and ill be working on the car. Wish me luck on it. I'll let you know how it goes.

I do have a question, on the brank pulley it should just come right off right? Is it pressed on like most cars?

Any other tips I should know about? If any, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi. No the pulley bolts to the belt drive. So once you remove the bolt on the pulley it will fall to the ground. Line timeing marks mark with white paint or something you can see well. Be sure belt is tight roll eng around by hand two turns. After new belt is on. Recheck timeing recheck tension. Do not start car until crank pulley is reinstalled. Good luck billymac

Oh thanks man. Yea I took the pulley off and fell right to the ground and I removed it with an impact wrench to it wont throw off the timing.

But thats besides the point lol. It took me 10 hrs to do the job from 9am until 730pm or so. I got set back 2 and a half hrs becuase after I got the belt on, I put on the serpentine belt and tensioner not putting anything else back together yet. I started it after of course putting crank pulley back on and the water pump started leaking. Turns out I put the gasket on backwards.

So this is where the 2 hr set back came into play, by the time I took off the pump and ran to 2 autozones becuase one didnt have the water pump gasket so I had to drive to another one on the other side of town. Got back and got the old pump and made sure 5 times on this is how the gasket goes on so I put it on as well as the pump and everything was lined put and put the belt on and everything stayed in line.

The first time I put the belt on, the crank kept jumping a tooth so I had to keep taking off the belt and keep lining up the crank and I finally did after like 10 tries. You gotta remember this is my 1st time ever doing a timing belt. Hopefully next time on another escort I do for somebody it wont be as bad.

Well I said I was gonna let you know how it goes and 3 mos later here I am. I'm so glad I saved myself like $400 labor. I've only paid 130 in parts that included the belt, tensioner, crankshaft seal, and water pump.

I was so frustrated earlier and kept thinking to myself wtf was I thinking about doing this. But not I got it done, i'll do it again. I was outside alllllllll day in 85 degree weather nonstop, and i'm sooooo whipped right now. I think i'm going to bed.

I also want to thank everybody for giving me the confidence to do this job. If it werent for you guys I wouldve taken it in. LIke I said it wasnt as painful as I thought.

Ok sorry for the longggg story and I hope everybody has a good night and I know Ill sleep very well tonight.
