Engine Performance problem
1999 Ford Escort 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 180K miles

Hello
My Escort was running very rough. Infact it would cut off at times when I stopped at a light etc. I swapped plugs with cyl 2 (Error code PO302), Lots of spark. I unplugged the injector, which made no difference in the way it idled. I put on new wires.
Through the process of elimination, I figured it would have to be a bad injector. Took the injector out and replaced it with a new one. It made no difference at all.

I thought the coil might be faulty, but I'm getting lots of spark on that cylinder.

Any suggestions. I am financially challenged so inexpensive suggestions work best for me to begin with.

Thank you
Terry

You need to get what is called a noid light to check if the injector is getting power. Most parts stores will lend them or rent them to you. All you do is disconnect the injector wiring, plug in the light, and crank the engine. The light should pulse on and off. If it doesn't, trace the wiring back for damage, shorts. Also, make sure the connector isn't damaged and not making contact with the injector. If all wiring is good, then we need to look at the PCM.

Let me know what you find.
