1997 Ford Escort head gasket

I have bought car from friend said it needed head gasket replaced when I pulled head I noticed rust in cyclinder walls will I have to go ahead pull engine and hone and re ring it I was hoping just run some cheap oil in it day or 2 and change it maybe flush rust out for time being what do u guys think

Try soaking with Marvel Mystery Oil or Kroll oil on the walls for a few days to let it penetrate, and maybe free up any frozen rings.
If your turning the motor over with rust and crud you have a very good chance of scoring up the rings and scratching the walls.
It should be dissembled and the crank taken out so you can move the pistons up or down to clean first before rotating any moving parts over. Good time to check the complete motor over.
If not it will cost more in the long run.
