My Ford Escort starts great but has a problem staying started. If I stay on the accelerator for about 5 mins and it warms up it will eventually idle on its own. This is a problem because I have to get it to pass an emissons test. I need help badly.

You first need to look for vacuum leaks including a bad PCV valve. Check that little right angle rubber adaptor on the top of the engine that goes to the pcv valve because they get soft & crack. Next, check the rubber corrugated hose from the filter section to be sure it's not cracked & leaking and that the clamps are tight. Then, if it still has the problem, clean the throttle body & butterfly valve-- typical buildup that restricts air flow during idle. Clean the idle air control valve(right at the throttle body too).

Hopefully, since these are the common problems, it will fix your car...
