1991 Ford Escort 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 156000 miles

I went to work car drives fine. I returned from being out in the fleid working and it was very cold. went to move my car and i had no pressure on the clutch. in order to move car i had to start car in gear. i did not have to move the clutch to move to another gear when car was not started. once the car was started i could not change what ever gear i was in. so my question is did i break my clutch cable and if so how would i go about replacing it?
