My wife got stranded in her car because it would not shift into gear, the auto windows would not work, the dash instruments would not work and the headlights would go out after 30 seconds and come back on for a short time only if you turned them off and back on. After doing a little research I determined it was the alternator because I only have 11.5 volts at the battery when the car was running. I checked all the fuses and they were good. I installed the new alternator after having the store check to make sure it was good. I still have the same problem. I was told to check the voltage on the small yellow wire at the alternator to see if the voltage was the same as at the battery and it was. I also installed a new battery. What would you check next? Thanks Steve

Ok you never mentioned what the voltage was after the new alternator was installed. Get back to me with that and we will see what we can do. Thanks and have a great day.

Discovered the problem was a 10 amp fuse under the dash in the #8 position. I replaced and everything works fine until I shift back into park and it blows again. Would you assume that there is a short in the steering column? Thanks

I would look for a wire problem. I would look at the brake shift interlock or interlock relay. This is what locks it in park until you step on the brake to release it out of park. This vehicle has an emergency override function. What you do is turn the ignition to the 1st position from off toward the on position and then step on the brake pedal and pull it out of gear first to neutral then start it.
This fuse could be blowing because of the ignition relay or shift interlock relay or brake pedal switch or the actuator itself.
If you want we do some tests that are extensive or you can take it to a shop you trust and have them check it. Let me know what you want to do and we will take it from there.
