I recently replaced my plugs on my 2000 Ford Contour and found them soaked in oil. What could have caused that?I changed the plugs and checked the gap but it is still running rough.

These engines commonly have gaskets that leak under valve cover gasket. Oil pools up in spark plug tubes causing oil to run all over plugs on removal. It gives the appearance that the oil was inside the engine when in fact it was not. Your problem is now likely to be the wires. Oil soaks into the rubber causing a breakdown that allows it to fire through the rubber on the wires.
