Engine Mechanical problem
1998 Ford Contour 90,000 miles

my daughter gave me this car after having a problem with the valves and having it repaired then a few days later it happened again. She didn't want to deal with it after that. One day she went out and her car wouldn't start. A man looked at it and said all the valves were on the same side. He put new springs in it and it ran real good for few days. Then one day it wouldn't start again. When the guy came back to look at it, he said that it was the same, all the valves were stuck on the same side. He couldn't figure it out and said he was going to talk to another mechanic and get back to her. He hasn't yet. It has been awhile. Now I need to find a way to fix it but everyone I talk to says they have no idea what it is. I am disabled and need a car to go to the doctor and to do my monthly things, and this would be a nice car for that, do you have any idea what it is? Could someone do anything to a car to cause this? Please help me to find out what to do with this car. Thank you donna delgado

My daughter paid a friend to replace the valve springs. He later said that it seemed to be having a problem with getting oil on one side. That something might be blocked or not getting oil into the motor. But he didn't know for sure, he had never seen anything like it before.

Is the head ports clear so oil can drain back into the engine? Is the engine holding good oil pressure? It should be checked with a mechanical oil gauge.

Let me know.

What I'm thinking, so you know, is maybe the head ports are partially plugged and not allwound enough oil to get back to the oil pan. Or, the pump pick up may be partially plugged and lowering oil pressure.

The friend that worked on the car first, wasn't sure what to do next. He isn't a real mechanic, it is just a hobby. But there is another guy that works with my daughter and he said something about the ports. But because it is such a weird thing that happened, no one really wants to go any farther. But she gave the car to me with hopes that I can find someway to fix it, so that I will have a good car. Now it will be a bit easier to find a mechanic or someone to work on it if they know what to look for. I hope that this will lead to finding what went wrong. Thank you again. I will get back to you when I get more info on it. Because of my low income problem, I have to find people that will let me make payments, or work cheap. But I have something to go on now. I wasn't blessed with a son who knows cars. He is a roofer. Thanks again.

I'm glad to help. If I lived near you I would fix it for you, but chances are we are about 1000 miles apart.

I have to admit, if only one side isn't getting oil, that is odd. That is what leads me to believe there isn't enough oil pressure. If I can help in any way, let me know.

Take care and stay in touch.

Joe
