1996 Ford Contour brakes light stays on

Replaced brake light switch an cruise shut off switch an wiring harness for both. But noticed the brake light works opposite. The light stays on an when you press the brake it goes off. This is driving me nuts. The local ford dealership says he never heard of it happening Is ther a way I can straight wire the brake light swtich? Does the break light swithch work on a positive current HELP

The brake switch is open when not depress-When depress the switch closes and power is transfered to the lights. You probably need to adjust it or you got the wrong type of switch
