Cant keep the van running

Engine Mechanical problem
1995 Ford Aerostar 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 250000 miles

I have a van that wont stay running bogs out backfires we have changed the fuel pump and fuel filter and still wont run or idle it will crank but wont stay running what could my problem be?

Has the check engine light come on? Have you checked for vacuum leaks? When was the last tune up?

The check engine light was on when I bought the van a year ago we have checked for vacuum leaks and did a recent tune up still no luck with the van I am getting very discouraged as it seems no one in KY can figure out what my problem is we had the points button and cap all replaced pluga and wires are fine no vacuum leaks getting plenty of fuel but very little spark(fire) when trying to crank it now u can hardle get the van to start I have invested so much money into this van already and dont know what else to do........I am hoping you can help solve this mystery..........Thank you for your help.

If the spark is weak, has anyone checked the crank sensor? Coil?

Yes put a new coil on the van bought a crank sensor went to put it on but cant find the location of it can you tell us where it is located? Looked for 2 1/2 hours with no luck we do have a repair manual for the van and it wasnt any help for locating the crank sensor thankyou for your quick response I need to get this van fixed asap.

The crank sensor is inserted into the right side of the engine block towards the front of the motor.
Also, if that doesnt fix it, yank the coil/ignition control module off the top of the motor and have it tested.

It's under hood on the passenger side, lower engine area, above crankshaft pulley, and it's mounted in engine block

I was told it could possible be the distributor is that correct I dont want to buy anything else that has a huge expense and it not be the problem Thankyou so much for the quick responses I have gotten and your help has been greatly aprreciated.
