1993 Ford Aerostar Gear shift stuck in reverse position

1993 Ford Aerostar 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 120000 miles
My 1993 ford Aerostar's gear shift is stuck in reverse and therefore I can not start the van. It is very loose to the feel and does not catch in any position

Have you checked the linkage to the transmission?
