After changing the headlight switch the headlights no longer come on. The parking light worked at first but has since stopped working.I read in a repair manual of a reostat located behind the fuse box. Could this be related to the original problem.

The yellow wire at the headlamp switch should be hot all the time, is it? If not, it gets voltage from fusible link. When you turn on the headlamp switch, the red wire with yellow tracer goes hot and sends voltage to the dimmer switch.
