1991 Ford Aerostar rear heater by pass

1991 Ford Aerostar 6 cyl All Wheel Drive Automatic 244000 miles
Hi, and thank you in advance for any help you can give me. I discovered a leak leading into the rear heating unit, I never use this heater and was wondering is it possible to bypass the unit completely and just throw a hose loop in and send the coolant back?
