Dash light for traction control stays on

2007 Ford 500 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 21647 miles
Why does the Traction Control light (little skid marks) on the dashboard stay on?? There is a switch on the dash to turn it on or off but it stays on. Sometimes it doesnt come one but then it will after a short ride.
