1995 Other Fiat Models Rear brakes stuck

Hi, I recently bought a '95 UNO FIRE 1100.

I overhauled the master cylinder (brakes were very bad), and discovered that the master cylinder wasn't letting any brake fluid through to the rear brakes.

Got that fixed!

The previous owner had new drums and shoes fitted at the rear.

After the overhaul the problem started. The handbrake and the piston (don't know of that is the correct word) releases. The shoes don't go back to their "released" position after using the handbrake or footbrake. The rear wheels gets extremely hot when driving and sometimes it smokes afterwards.

I have checked everything and it seems fine. Why is the shoes stuck and how can I get them to function properly.

Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks
