1997 Fiat Marea timing belt and motor

1997 Fiat Marea 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual 20000 miles
Dear Sir!
I have a car Fiat marea model 1997, 1.6 , 16V and motors no. 182.A4.000
I have big broblem with mekanikman cuz timing belt for mottor is cutting .. and they tell me i most repair all motor and this very expensive.
What you think for this ??

I would have the mechanic replace the belt and test the car .. this vehicle does not usually break/bend valves
