Engine stalls at low revs

1997 Fiat Bravo 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic
had a new 2nd hand engine put in my car, but at low revs the engine stalls, mechanic thinks its the gear box but this seemed fine before the new engine. whats the likely cause.

check fuel pressure and check for vacuum leaks
