The light behind the vent switcher(face/feet/defrost/etc.) Always had problems, but generally, if I hit the dash the light would come back on. Now, all the lights behind the temperature control, fan speed, and vent switcher are out. The cigarette lighter stopped providing power as well. The radio still works fine and the AC adapter next to the cigarette lighter still provides power.

I noticed a bundle of loose wires under the stick shift that look like they should be snapped in somewhere, but I can't see any place to plug them in.

That bundle of wires could just be a plug for a accessory you dont have. The ac control lights sounds like the bulb burned out. When you were hitting you were making the element reattach temporarily. As far as the cig lighter have you checked the fuses yet?

I hadn't checked the fuses. I just found them under the steering column and see that the cigarette lighter is labeled 15. Do I need to remove the fuse to see if it is bad? And will I need a pliers to do it?

As for the AC control light, do you have any advice on how to remove the front panel to do that?

It would be easier to just to pop the fuse out and see if its blown. Depending on how close the fuses are together if you will be able to remove them with your fingers.I will looking into how to remove the ac to get to the bulb.

Remove the four allen bolts around the radio bezel then remove the radio. Then you can access the ac controls.
