On our Explorer, the temperature gauge and the radio does not work. However, when we step on the brakes or when we turn on the blinker, you can hear crackling in the speakers. What do you think is causing this and how do you fix it?

The gauges cold be bad for the first problem and the ground for the radio or loose wire can cause crackling through the speakers or the speaker are going bad.

Both ip and radio ground on left front fender so check for corrosion and clean it as well as battery terminal ends.
