Make: Eagle
Model: Talon (Base model)
year: 1996
mileage: 130000
engine: 420A L4 122cc non turbo (not DSM sticker on fire wall Mitsubishi sticker dose not make since says 420A but thats a Chrysler motor but engine is the original motor and all information on sticker is correct)

I have a 96 eagle talon and just recently I was driving back home and the car just shut off no check engine light or anything it just shut off. After I stopped I could restart it and I could get going for about 20 or 30 sec then it would just shut off again. The car will run forever just sitting still at idle or even giving it more gas. It is getting spark and the right fuel pressure. When I started looking at it I pulled out the crank posisioning sensor and and when I pulled it out the plug on the sensor which faces up had alot of oil in it ( the valve cover leaks on the backside) dont know if it could have been fouled out or not. At first I thought their could be a worn though wire in the harness and I took it mostly out and looked at everything and did not find anything. Could it be the cam sensor or the ignition control module? Im now not getting spark after cleaning the crank sensor and putting the wiring harness back together I was not really thinking when I cleaned the sensor and spayed degreaser that says not to get it on sensors. Would the sensor being bad have caused it to shut off and now not get spark the engine still turns over and has fuel pressure but no power at the ignition coil I have already checked.

My 96 Eagle Talon did the same. The problem is that rust wicks down the positive battery cable and effectively severs it. As you drive, vibrations can and will disconnect the weak link that still holds the cable together. I believe you need to replace the positive cable battery. Try peeling the insultion a bit and you should see the rust.
