My drivers window all of a sudden stop working in the down position. I checked the switch with a test light. Switch had power and ground was the ground was good. I had power at the motor. I figured something was wrong with the motor. I bought the truck new in 2001 and the window motors are original and never been touched. I removed the four screws to the cover, removed the drive from the regulator to check the armature. The cover had graphite looking flakes in it. I cleaned this stuff out of the cover. I cleaned the armature with fine emory cloth and used contact cleaner when I was finished. I noticed on one of the brushes that I could see the braided copper was exposed on the worn side. I rotated this brush so that he thicker side was on the armature. After many tries I finally got it back together. The motor works, but it is backwards. The up position on the switch makes the window go down and the down position makes it go up. The automatic down is now automatic up. What did I do wrong to make the window be backwards? Thank you in advance for your help.

More than likely something happened to switch the wires and that is causing the motor to run in reverse.

So here is a guide that will help get us started. Basically, we need to reverse the wires going from the switch to the motor.

The way this works is when you press the switch the current is flowing in one direction to cause the motor to go in that direction. Then when you push the switch in the other direction, the current reverses and the motor turns the other way.

So, if they are reversed then we need to switch the wires and it will run in the correct direction.

Here is a wiring diagram that will show this. Please let us know if you have questions.
