Hello. When I turn on heat, it starts to blow warm air, but then it turns cold. The engine temp is normal. I do notice coolant is very rust colored.

With the engine hot, running, and the heater on, do both heater core hoses get hot?

I was told that one hose does NOT get hot. Is there a blockage?

If only one gets hot, chances are the core is blocked inside or the heater valve is bad. Check along the hoses to see if there is a valve. Is the coolant hot to the valve then cool off? If so, chances are that is the problem. If it doesn't change, then the heater core is plugged.

If it is the valve, just replace it. If the core, you can flush it with garden hose pressure.

Let me know what you find, or you have other questions.

Joe
