I have a 2007 Ram 1500, with a 5.7 Multi displcement engine. The owners manual says to use 5W-20 motor oil. I am concerned about warm weather, and interstate highway driving, with a 5W-20 oil. What about using a 5W-30 oil in this engine. Is Chrysler calling for 5W-20 oil to help meet CAFE requirements, or is 5W-20 required because of the multi displacemrnt engine?

Most places that change the oil use a 10w 30. The low number is based on cold weather. It stays thin enough so the engine gets proper lubrication during
start ups in cold weather. The higher mumber is for regular operation, the 30 weight oil is thicker than the 20. With very hot weather some people put in 20w 40.
