I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500. I start driving down the road and it starts backfiring. I let of the gas and it stops then a couple more miles it does it again. I get to a stop sign it kills and its hard to start. Let it sit for an hour shes good to go. Could this be my fuel pump going out.

See if your engine oil is starting to smell like gasoline. If so, I would say you are running too rich, possibly flooding the engine. When it sits for that hour, the gas would drain into the oil, and the vehicle would start. Try checking for vaccuum leaks, or have your fuel system professionally cleaned (most shop will do this for under $130) as the injectors may be 'drippy'. Good luck.
