Brake & backup lights

I have a friend with a Dodge pickup, don't know the specifics. Anyhow when you step on the brake peddle, the brake lights come on but so do the backup lights, bothof them. What would cause this?

Very simple the brake light and back-up lites power circuit is shorted together.
