A/c compressor problem...

I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 quad-cab 4x4, 5.4L, 130k miles. After hearing an awful scraping/squealing sound coming from under the hood, I noticed the A/C compressor pulley slightly wobbling. The belt is properly tensioned, so I believe a bearing has gone out on the compressor. After reviewing a parts site, I saw a compressor clutch bearing listed. I assume this may be what I need since no other parts of this kind were listed. My question is (if my other assumptions are right!!??)- Can this repair be done without discharging the A/C system? I'm well versed at most other repairs, but haven't done much A/C system work. Many thanks for a reply!
