engine just clicks when trying to start will start sometimes and will continue to start all day then will repeat the following day

i had a jeep that was doing the same thing and when it would only click i could hit the starte with a hammer and it would start the shop that rebuilds starters told me the brushes were going out in the starter. so i replaced it and never had anymore problems
