My son was going through a deep puddle. Engine compartment was flooded and water did get into the air filter and intake. The truck died instantly so we replaced the batery and it still won't turn over just clicks. The starter is very hot to touch could it be shorted out? Or somthing else.

If you sucked water through the air filter, the cylenders are full of water and the starter can't turn the engine. Water won't compress. Remove the spark plugs and see if it will turn.

Let me know what happens. With the plugs out, the water should shoot out. My concern is if a connecting rod was bent when this happened.

Let me know.
