2004 Dodge Ram Check engine light and electrical light both

On long trips, over 150 miles or so, for no apparent reason, the check engine light and the lightning bolt light both will come on at the same time. The engine loses power and shifts hard. I can pull over and shut it off then restart it after a just a few second and the lightning bolt has gone off. The truck then seems to run fine but the check engine light stays on while its hot. After the truck sits overnight, both lights are off again and it runs fine until the next long trip. Any ideas?

It won't trip the check engine light and not have any fault codes unless the computer has problems. A scanner will read the information you need to check both problems. A good scan. OK
