1997 Dodge Ram Heat gauge up to 260, no warm air comes throu

What would the problem be if the truck is overheating (the gauge is all the way to the top) and no warm air comes out of the vents, even though it's on the hottest temperature and the highest setting? I was sliding around on some snow and ice last night, could that have overworked the engine somehow?
