I have 1996 dodge ram that has recently shown check engine light on, shortly after that my transmission light showed up with a overheating message, and now my overdrive light is also on. Transmission has been possibly been rebuilt does not slip; can still drive through town but not on highway.

What you need to do is have the computer scanned to identify what the trouble codes are that are set. Most parts stores will do it for free, so start there and let me know what codes you find.
