1976 Other Dodge Models Trouble starting the first time each

I have a 70s Dodge RV I just got and there are some issues. The first time I start it each day it drags and pauses while turning over and and sometimes it will backfire and when it does it does only once. This could last till the battery goes down but doesn't always. Once it does start it runs great and starts easy without even touching the gas peddle and idle good.
