1981 Dodge Mirada Starter

Engine Mechanical problem
1981 Dodge Mirada V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic

I think i need a starter but i am not sure, I charged the battery fully overnight and went to start it and it turned the engine at proper speed but it wouldnt start then when i let off the key there was a sound like a fan is turning and if i try to start again while that is making the noise it makes a grinding noise. After about 4 tries the engine started. Do I need a new starter?

Hi there,

The stater is faulty, change it before it damages the drive plate, that is the grinding noise, if the drive plate is damaged you will have to have the transmission removed to replace it.
