Hi,

My 2000 Dodge Intrepid, 2.6L Automatic Transmission, 104000 miles, while stopping after the engine has fully warmed up and has been driven for 7-10 miles, engine oil light comes on. The problem occured before and I had an oil pressure sensor replaced, the problem still there. The light only comes up when stopped and still in drive, the RPMs at this time are 500. If for some reason engine revs up slightly while stopped the light goes away. Engine has no hestitation even during starting in cold weather. What can be possibly wrong, and how much would be to fix the problem? Is it an oil pump or faulty pressure sensor?
Thanks,
Chetak

500 is a really low idle...if it should be 700 or so then the pressure would be to low...is it running rough at 500 or does it normally run that low?

Eversince I bought it (new) it has been running at 500 idle when in "drive" and stopped. When in "park" it runs at 700. This problem is fairly recent. Actually, the milage on the car has also dropped a little, I am not sure whether it is as a result of the same problem.

Thanks,

My Dodge Ram 1500 truck does the same thing. It's at 130,000 miles, and I recently replaced the idle air control valve. But for some reason it still idles around 500 and if I've driven for any length of time (as little as 15 miles on the highway), as soon as I come to a stop the rpms drop to around 200 before coming back up to 500, but the oil light starts to flicker and my oil pressure gauge hovers low back and forth. It's really worrying me, if someone could give me an idea of what the problem is it would be much appreciated.
