i bought the car with 110,000 miles, cars been great so far except check engine light comes on for a day or so then it resets and is off for a few days. every time i've tried to get it checked it goes off, so i don't have any codes as of yet. Today while driving home the car would not shift out of 1st gear. I pulled it over turned it off sat for a min. or so restarted the car and it was fine the rest of the way. i had a 1996 intrepid that did the same thing replaced the speed sensors and had tranny re-build. the 96 continued to do that so we traded for the 2002, now the 2002 is acting the same way.Any clue would be a help.I am getting frustrated at this point.

Even if the light goes out, the PCM should have stored a fault code. The Speed Sensor would make sense, does the speedo work all the time? even when the trans wont shift?

yes the speedometer works all the time so far. only had one time when gas meter wouldnt read. But that has'nt happened since. i will get the code today or tomorrow.
thank you
the codes came up as p0135, p0700. there was a manufacter code as well ,but didnt come up with an explanation
p0700 says transaxle control system fault, does that explain the way the cars been acting or not?

The p0135 is the o2 sensor 1, bank 1 heater problem, a new sensor will probably fix that one.The trans controller code means that a Trouble code for the trans has previously been set.Could be the manufacturer specific code you refered to earlier. If your shop doesnt have a scanner capable of reading the trans codes, you might have to take it to Dodge to be scanned, need to find out what the trans code is first
