Does it overheat when you are driving down the road or sitting still or both? If only when sitting still the fan is probably not working. If both then the woter pump is probably defective and the fins are not pumping enough water, or the radiator is not flowing good enough, and if your using Dexcool get rid of it, it causes rust inside the system after there has been a leak in the system and is very hard to correct. Replace it with the green antifreeze.
