1996 Dodge Intrepid Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I have a 1996 Dodge Intrepid that the negative battery cable was unable to stay tight on the post and was causing the car to start slow. I cut the battery end off and put on a universal heavy duty top post end. My problem is that now the car won't start. There is power coming from the battery since all the inside electrical items and the headlights wirk just fine. When you turn the key it just acts like the battery is dead. I have tried hooking it up top a battery charger overnight and even tried jump starting it with no success.

Hi JM78103. Welcome to the forum. The fastest way to find this is with a test light. Put the ground clip on the positive battery cable, then touch the probe to the negative battery post to insure the light lights. Move the probe to the cable clamp and again, the light will light. Move the probe to the engine block. You're looking for the point at which the light no longer lights. Next, do the same thing on the body of the car. That will verify the small negative wire is making a good connection.

If no problem is found this way, the poor connection may be breaking down under load. Do the same tests while a helper holds the ignition switch in the "crank" position.
