I HAVE 1996 DODGE INTREPID 109000 MILES

MY QUESTION IS IT STARTS IDLE GOOD BUT WHEN WARM ABOUT 3 MINUTES I PUT IT IN REVERSE AND IT CUTS OFF EVERYTIME I PUT IN REVERSE AND IT BACKFIRES WHEN IT CUTS OFF ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!
