Running to high I think.

I have a 1990 Dodge dokata v6, 3.9 liter , it has over 1000 miles on it, anyways ,when i put it in gear it kinda jumps and burns out , i have my foot on the brake too when i change gears ,my friend said its ideling too high is that the problem, would you give me some tips to how to get it fix and how much it would cost i would appricate it.

Could be a vacuum leak, a problem with the idle air control valve/stepper motor, throttle position or MAF sensors.
