Belt tensioner
Have a [b]2000 Dakota sport v6, 90,000mi. How does the auto belt tensioner operate?

as your belt wears out the tensioner always has constant pressure on it so when it wears it keeps tight. if your tensioner is coming lose you should look and see if maybe a bolt broke or fell out of the mounting bracket.
