Why does my car get hot and shut down?

1993 Dodge Colt 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 160000 miles
It started as when the temp outside was cold the car would start then when the temp was over 50 my car wouldn't start now it's ok until it warms up and then it stops but will start back up in a few minutes but then keeps dying after a few blocks

Does the engine seem to be running rich? (black smoke from exhaust)
