Engine Mechanical problem
2003 Dodge Caravan 6 cyl Automatic 116, 00 miles

My van began hesitating at during normal highway driving and someone recommended I change the fuel filter, did that but it didn't correct the problem, the check engine lite code said the map sensor was bad, so I had that replace, then it started smoking (gray) after starting it and sputtering, the spark plugs were "black" and the van was running very rich and that I would need a cat converter, replaced all of that and it still isn't running, the last mechanic said the computer needed to be flashed, took to dealer for diagnostic and it wont take a flash or find anything in the computer - now trying to say they need extended diagnostic time to look, Any Ideas? Please help - this is a van conversion with a dropped floor for my son's wheelchair and we desperately need it and have already spent a significant amount of money and still no resolution?

So does it start at all? How is the spark? How is the fuel pressure? Has anyone check the cam or crank sensors? Get back to me with what you can so I try to help.

No it isn't starting at all. I don't know the answer to the spark or fuel pressure and supposedly yes they checked the cam/crank sensors. They say the computer isn't relaying info to them but the computer is okay. They have been looking at it all day today to trace what the problem is. Worried I might get a song and dance with a huge bill! I also asked if they checked the ignition etc, they said yes. Any ideas?

OK need to know if there is spark and if so then I need to know what the fuel pressure it. Now as for the crank and cam sensor they don't get info from the computer the computer get the info from them to determine where number 1 cylinder is so it can start and send spark and injector pulse in the proper firing order. Let me know what you find out.
